I worked with Dr. Rubin one-on-one to improve my expository writing. He has been the most pivotal teacher I've ever worked with, by far. Our work helped me to think critically about research, to improve my analysis of primary and tertiary sources, to craft compelling and arguable theses, and to critically edit and reedit my writing. He had high expectations of me and my work, was honest and critical in editing my work, and guided me through a research project from beginning to end where I researched a topic that was new to me, interviewed an expert in the field, and wrote a paper with citations and annotations. Dr. Rubin prepared me well for my high-school experience and also for extracurricular college courses. Since working with him three years ago, I've gone onto working on papers for the Concord Review and National History Day Competition. Working with Dr. Rubin broadened my scope of what I thought good writing could be and taught me invaluable skills that I will use for the rest of my life.

Robert Rubin is a fantastic editor. He is just as amazing at improving a person’s writing skills.

 

I reached out to Robert as I was applying for the Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship. I was challenged in constructing the essays required for the scholarship. Robert quickly agreed to support me through the process and set up an appointment to speak with me. Much of the work we did together occurred over the phone, through email, and google docs. It was tremendously helpful to me, as I was a full-time parent, a full-time supervisor, and a student, which left me little available time.

 

When we spoke the first time Robert was very kind and insightful. As he asked questions I recognized I was verbalizing my story that would become an impactful essay for the competition. He seemed to know exactly what he was doing by asking the right questions. He was also taking notes. All of this helped me write an effective narrative to describe myself to the scholarship committee. 

 

Robert proved to have tremendous understanding of the scholarship essay process. He explained what these committees are often looking for. He assisted me in constructing a linear account of the story I wanted to tell. He helped me to eliminate portions of the essay that were non-essential to the scholarship process. He also assisted me in creating a concise narrative which included necessary points of my experience to show my drive, academic achievement, and personal successes. 

 

Without Robert’s assistance, I would not have become a semi-finalist in the Jack Kent Cooke scholarship competition or a winner in the Martin Honors Scholarship process. Robert assisted me in understanding how to construct content, use my story effectively, and create an award winning essay. And, his amazing editing ability helped to clean up grammatical errors that might have eliminated me from the competitions. 

 

Robert is such a pleasure to work with. Regardless of what I shared with Robert, he never judged me and always treated me with kindness and respect. He responded to my request for service as if it were as important as writing a life changing policy proposal. I am eternally grateful for his knowledge, skill, ability, insight, and kindness.

Robert Rubin is an honest, articulate, and brilliant editor.  I felt comfortable first meeting him because he was easy to approach.  I told him why I was there, and proceeded to show him an essay my brother wrote to get into medical school. I explained that this essay had to be formatted in a way so the audience could get the picture of who my brother is. In that meeting, Robert did a brief review of my brother’s life and made edits that needed to be addressed immediately.  Before I left the meeting, he told me that this essay had to tell a story and the audience needed to visualize it within four pages. 

 

After the meeting, I went back home and informed my brother. He then made some major edits.  Based on the notes Robert gave me, I told my brother that he had to sculp the parts that were needed for the essay as well as visualize its impact on the reader.  When we met again, I showed Robert my brother’s final essay and he was impressed. He slightly adjusted some the language and tone to capture the reader’s attention. 

 

Robert took my brother’s paper and like a detective found clues in the essay where edits had to made, points of reference enhanced, and punctuation corrected, to make it flow properly.  This allowed my brother’s story to unfold for the admission committee.  Due to working with Robert, my brother was able to get into medical school.  For anyone who needs to clear up some weak areas or show their vision to their reader, whether it’s a job interview, or admission to graduate school I would recommend Robert Rubin.
